This article covers the roles a person can have in a workspace — Owner, Admin, Editor, and Member — what each can do, and how to transfer ownership.
Every member of a workspace has exactly one role. Roles control who can manage the team and who can change the subscription. You set a person's role when you invite them, and you can change it later from the Team tab in workspace settings.
The four roles
| Role | What it can do | |---|---| | Owner | Full control. The single account owner of the workspace. Manages billing and the subscription, manages the team, and can transfer ownership. There is exactly one Owner per workspace. | | Admin | Manages the team — invite people, change other members' roles, and remove members. On the team side an Admin can do what the Owner can, but the Owner role itself stays with one person. | | Editor | Builds and edits calculators. Intended for day-to-day project work, not team or billing management. | | Member | The default role for invited people. Has access to the workspace's calculators but is not a team or billing manager. |
When you invite people, new rows default to the Member role; you can change the role per person in the invite dialog. The invite dialog never offers Owner — ownership is only ever moved by transfer (below).
Changing a role
- Open workspace settings and go to the Team tab.
- Find the person in the People table and use the Role dropdown in their row.
- Pick the new role. The change saves immediately.
Notes on who can change what:
- Only the Owner sees the option to promote someone to Owner (which triggers an ownership transfer). Admins can assign any role except Owner.
- The Owner's own row always displays as Owner and can't be edited inline.
- You can't remove the Owner from the workspace; the Remove user action is disabled on the Owner's row.
Transferring ownership
Ownership is moved by promotion, not by editing billing:
- On the Team tab, open the Role dropdown for the person you want to make Owner.
- Choose Owner. Numio shows a Transfer ownership? confirmation.
- Confirm. The selected person becomes the new Owner, and your role changes to Admin.
This action can only be undone by the new Owner transferring ownership back to you. Only the current Owner can start a transfer.
Seats and invites
Adding people is also limited by your seat allowance, not just by role. If the workspace is at its seat limit, the invite is blocked until you add seats. See Seats and team expansion.
